And It Was All Yellow

Do you ever find that however much you dislike a colour, every now and again it comes into fashion, and, even though you aren't necessarily one to follow the latest trends, you find yourself looking at that colour in a whole different light? Yellow has never been a colour I would choose to have around. Having red hair, I was always told it would make me look sallow. I found it too bright, too brash, too 'let's all be happy happy happy!'

At the moment I can't get enough of the stuff! Whether it's because I associate it with the retro looks of the 1970's, or whether I'm seeing it used in new and interesting contexts, such as Mollie Makes, or perhaps it's my brain's way of crying out for spring after such a long and dark winter... I'm finding that I include it more and more in my accessories, button-making and photography.

And yes, I've decided I can wear yellow after all!

Are you a mellow yellow fan?

PS: My giveaway ends tomorrow - you could win any two items of your choice from my Etsy shop!

  4. Lovely! I don't wear yellow much (I think it can be tricky for blondes too) but I always enjoy it in decor and nature alike!

I bought some yellow and white spotty fabric at the weekend - I'm going to have a go at making a dress with it. Exciting!

  6. My dad is a digger driver, so I always winced at the colour yellow. Probably as a result of over exposure to it as a child and the horrible shade the kitchen was painted! Lately I have found myself being drawn to it, and even liking it, which I honestly never thought I would! Especially a mustardy shade. I also have a real thing for plum/burgandy type purples at the moment, which I previously would have avoided at all costs!

I am also quite liking little zings of neon pink and yellow, when paired with a pale bluey grey. But that is my little secret :o)

  9. Winnie the Pooh!
Because of that fact alone, I approve of yellow surroundings. I wouldn't wear yellow as I'm too depressed as a person to justify it. Although, that wool and tea cosy look very nice...

  10. I'm a definite yellow lover - it's a family thing, my Dad's trucks/diggers etc are all yellow so it's become a bit of a family signature!

  12. I am the same, was never a yellow fan but now I too cannot get enough of it!

As per my blog (also currently on yellow due to my yellow and green kitchen theme), I even have a yellow flower rule.

Not sure I would wear it though, don't think I could carry it off :o/

  13. I am big on colour therapy, and find I have always had a draw to certain colours which can highly effect my mood. Yellow has always been a big no no for me! I have never liked the colour on anything, especially interiors and clothes but being blonde it wouldn't suit me anyway! I love your blog btw :)

  15. I know exactly what you mean. It was never a colour I particularly liked but I am drawn to it so often lately. It's just such a happy, jolly, sunny colour.

  21. I'm not a great yellow fan either - I share the redhead thing - but some of my favourite things are yellow, daffodils, lemons . . . so there's hope for me yet - and I do love Bryony's tea cosy! Helen x
