Customising Clothes With Doilies

My local charity shop used to have a basket full of doilies, of all shapes and sizes, for 20p each. When I thought up some ideas for making use of them a few months ago and went to stock up, the basket was gone, and a rather... direct, shall we say, lady informed me that they hadn't been selling, so they had been 'moved on'. One heartbroken Anna.

A couple of weeks ago, much to my surprise, the basket returned! The contents were different, but this time I was determined to show there was demand and I snapped up a large pile of the beauties. Finally, I've got round to customising some clothes in need of sprucing up.

I'm afraid it wasn't really the weather for frolicking around outdoors without a coat on (and hat, and gloves...) so I don't think I've shown the skirt in the best light, it being more of an outfit for a mild spring day. Anyway, my customising took me one Creatives Unite session and hey presto, there's life in these threads yet.

What do you use doilies for?

  1. I remember you did a blog post about a year ago on uses for doilies, with customising clothes being one of them, so I always look out for them in charity shops! I've now found a little charity shop which sells them so will be stocking up pronto.

I love that skirt - I love boho 70s style peasant skirts and tops for summer - and the doilies really complement it. Cute idea to embellish the pockets of your cardi too, so simple but makes so much difference!

  11. Handmade doilies are labours of love in themselves, I like the idea that they have been given a new life on the hem of a lovely skirt!
