Here we are; the first embroidery I have done since I was around eight years old, and the first I have completed, well... ever.
The lyric is from the song Thick As Thieves by Kasabian. I'm not sure why but the words have stayed with me. When deciding how to illustrate my lettering I had to give it a little thought, as I was adamant that it mustn't look too feminine! In the end I decided to have a go at some Sailor Jerry style traditional tattoo art.
This was such a therapeutic and addictive project! I'll definitely be delving into my commonplace book and starting another embroidery quotation very soon.
Dear Anna
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your embroidery project - it looks great. It definitely has a vintage feel to it.
Best wishes
Ellie
Thank you Ellie, it was probably simply the word 'vintage' that caused the words to linger in my memory, so I'm pleased I finally got round to committing them to fabric!
DeleteThis looks fabulous and I love the idea of using song lyrics!
ReplyDeleteThis is where my erm...varied [and often cheesy] musical tastes could become apparent as I make more!
DeleteThis is beautiful Anna, I can totally understand what you mean about lyrics - some stay with you forever!
ReplyDeleteYou've done a great job on the tattoo-art style!
Jem xXx
Thanks Jem, I knew tattoo art is making a comeback but I hadn't really explored its origins before. It was interesting to research the meanings behind traditional tattoo designs. x
DeleteI'm working on some Sailor Jerry style stuff at the moment too. Yours are very nicely embroidered.
ReplyDeleteYes I very briefly took a look at your brilliantly named post this morning - will be back for a proper read of your latest!
DeleteI love the birdies! They"re so cute. Congrats on finishing your project--they're always a lot easier to start.
ReplyDeleteThank you - in this case some halfway warm British weather meant I could embroider in the garden so that helps me to finish things!
DeleteThis is gorgeous - I love how you've done the birdies!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachael, I'm often drawn to bird designs and am always admiring them in others' work.
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteVictoria xx
Thank you! x
DeleteI thought you'd bought this in a shop when I first saw this photo!! Very neat sewing Anna, beautiful! :) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Imogen, I have invested in a magnifying lamp in the last week so I should be able to see what I'm doing without squinting! x
DeleteLove the idea of embroidering lyrics - I've not done any embroidery for years, might have to make it my next project!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I was pleasantly surprised at how absorbing and therapeutic I found it, and not as difficult as anticipated either. Give it a whirl!
DeleteHi, just found you via Hoots Cove.
ReplyDeleteLove this blog post, it has inspired me to get back to my embroidering.
