I'm hoping to find the time to start putting up Christmas decorations this weekend. It's a tradition in my family to make or buy a new bauble for the tree each year; our decorations never co-ordinate and aren't fashionable but each one has a memory behind it. I have a nutcracker ornament that I bought from a German Christmas market in Leeds shortly after I moved there for university, and two years ago I was in Baltimore for work in December so brought a bauble home with me. As of last year even Bea has her own bauble - no family member is left out!
This year... well, 2012 has without a doubt been my most crafty and creative year to date, so it had to be a handmade decoration. I hadn't even thought about it until my mum gave me a plain white bauble she had found in a charity shop and wondered if I wanted to decorate it with buttons to celebrate my new little button shop opening. She's so thoughtful.
Having vague thoughts of the fun I used to have with glitter at Christmastime as a child I enthusiastically set to with a pile of buttons, a glue gun and pots of glitter... only I think I overdid it a little!

On the plus side, it really does bring to mind those wonderful creations I used to proudly present to my mum each Christmas of my primary school years, some of which will still be displayed on the family Christmas tree along with this one over the weekend. I'll just tell everyone I made it when I was small... ahem.
Made by Anna... aged 25 and nearly a half :)
Have a sparkly Friday,

Wishing you a Very Crafty Christmas! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's to festive crafting and all things handmade! x
DeleteYou can never use too much glitter :)

This is true. Bea's been looking rather glittery ever since! x
DeleteGreat result! And unco-ordinated decorations are the best - there's nothing worse than a "fashionable" Christmas tree. Let your own style shine (or in this case sparkle!) x
ReplyDeleteThis is my style circa five years old, but I reckon kids produce lovely joyous decorations! x
DeleteI LOVE THIS!! Buttons and glitter? What's not to love?! xx
ReplyDeleteMmmm... buttons... x
DeleteAnna. You can NEVER over do glitter! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove this and the fact that all your ornaments have a story behind them.

Thanks Claire, I hadn't played with glitter in ages so it was fun! x
DeleteI agree with the other comments, you can never have too much glitter. :-)
ReplyDeleteDuly noted, must play with it more ;) x
DeleteThe problem with fashionable Christmas trees is that they can then go out of fashion so quickly and that's a problem you'll never have with a mis-matched tree. Plus mis-matched decoration mean so much more! It's the little traditions that make Christmas really special for me.
ReplyDeleteLoving your bauble! Buttons and glitter are always a winning combination - one that is highly underused in life in my opinion! xx
You're absolutely right. I have been making glittery buttons recently which was hugely satisfying! x
