A Vintage Fair and a Spot of Thrifting

Yesterday I spent a happy hour - despite a debacle with a parking meter that diddled me out of some time (harumph) at the Sheffield Vintage Fair. The fair travels all over the country, and it was with great anticipation that it was received once again in its hometown for its first stop of the 2012.

I always love vintage fairs, as unlike many high street shops, everyone is welcome - all ages, both sexes and every fashion style imaginable. I went along with my mum, as she loves to reminisce as much as I enjoy discovering new styles and brands for the first time. It also warmed both our hearts to see a full brown set of Hornsea pottery, exactly like the set my nan still uses, a set of bed linen as still used by my gran - at 88 years old she really is the original make-do-and-mender, my gran, and with cringes a-plenty, a good many woolly cardigans which I all to readily recall my dad wearing when I was a child. At least I do remember them being warm to snuggle up to!

I can't really talk, as I triumphantly emerged from the fair with a Scottish wool aran jumper. I've been after such a warm garment to wear with jeans or leggings for a long time, and as you've probably noticed, I love wool. At £10 I was pleased as punch.

...And a vintage tea shop!

Even better, the jumper was not my only bargain of the day. In a branch of The Works (a bargain stationery and books shop, non-UK readers) I discovered this:

It's been on my reading list for so long, and at £11.21 on Amazon I was really chuffed to find several copies hiding under some art books in the shop for £5.00!

It's got a great many five star reviews on Amazon; needless to say I'll be adding my own review soon.

So my thrifting fund was not at all displeased with my by the end of yesterday, dear readers, especially as I also finally tracked down some felt in the right colour, so I can finish making my Miss Bea brooches!

What vintage/crafty adventures have you been up to so far this weekend?

Enjoy your Sunday,
