This was certainly the case when I recently visited my favourite crockery stall. Everything they sell is £1, and although you get the usual cracked saucers etc. most of the goods are just piled into cardboard boxes, and I really don't think they understand the value of some of their wares. This is all the better for those of us on the hunt for a bargain, however!
I was more than a little annoyed on this occasion, though, because as well as knick knacks this stall sells books, including old annuals from the 1970s and 80s. I was in the middle of rooting through boxes when I saw a crate choc full of orange Penguin Classics paperbacks. They had been left out in the rain and had warped. I could have cried!
Anyway, I was just wondering which plates to go for when I spotted this one:
| Not quite a pirate ship, but it does have the air of a swashbuckling story. |
I know, I know, completely different to my usual style, but I do have a bit of a thing for all things pirate!
A few minutes later I came across this, smaller plate:
So suddenly I found myself planning a gothic fairytale cake stand instead! I love the idea of items telling a story. Now I just need the middle tier.
Luckily I have plenty of pretty pastel plates in stock too!
What do you think?
