Organising My Sewing Kit - Help Needed!

You've seen this classic style of sewing box before, I'm sure.

I've had this one since I started taking an interest in knitting and sewing as a child, so it isn't vintage (well, to me it is), but I've seen a fair few people grappling over the same kind at carboot sales recently, and thought I'd go and rescue mine from the loft where it's been residing for a fair few years. My sewing materials are kept all over the place and need a portable home.

As you can see it needs a little repair work, and is slightly wobbly, but I'm sure I can easily fix that.

I need your help, though. It's a very practical sewing box and a clever design, but I must admit I find it a little dull and uninspiring, to say it's supposed to keep all my wonderful colourful threads and fabrics safe. Do you think I should leave it as it is, or paint it? Maybe some decoupage?

I'd really appreciate your input!

Have a relaxing Sunday - after trawling around B&Q and getting some funny looks from male shop assistants yesterday (What? a female? In the masonry section?!) I finally managed to track down a 6mm tile drill bit, so I hope to get my first cake stand finished today. That's if the drill bit doesn't blunt after two plates, as the online reviews suggest it might. Sigh!

Paint it white and rustic it up a bit maybe? It is identical to the one my Nan had when I was a kid so I love it the way it is anyway, although I think your sewing stuff will rapidly exceed its capacity if you're anything like me.

I really like the rustic idea. I was thinking a sort of vintage sage colour?

You're also right about the capacity, as I've been sent some sewing materials this week, so it's filling fast...
