Crochet Inspiration

So in this post about Skills Swapping the other day I wittered about how I am learning to crochet. After much squinting at the loops of wool on my hook I came to realise that that the way I was holding my wool was the problem. My friend had advised me to move only the hook, but that went against my knitting instinct and took a little concentrating to get right.

I need a lot more practise, but I'm starting to get the hang of this particular woolly craft. And boy, do I love wool.

Now, crochet is all the rage at the moment. It's true that it's pretty addictive, and as someone who is incapable of watching tv without faffing about doing something else at the same time I can see it's going to come in handy. The only problem is that I find the more traditional crochet projects, such as a granny square blanket, well, a little... bleurgh. Not to my taste. I think it's because they remind me of a) hippies and b) the Dingles' home in Emmerdale.

Er - no.

Mmm. I appreciate the skill involved, but it's not really my style.

So I've been on the prowl for some crochet inspiration, because even if most projects are currently way above my skill level, I need the motivation to help me improve my crochet technique. Then the sky's the limit!

Here are some of my favourites:

I plan to make lots of flowers because they can be used as embellishments
on all sorts of craft projects. The colours on this one are beautiful.

Such a novel idea!

My mum loves owls, so these would make a lovely embellishment on
a bag for her.

I need one of these pretty much every day at the moment.

I'd like a big version of this hat! Or I could be nice and make one for a young friend

Hooray! A crochet blanket I can live with!

Er...right. Better get some practise in then!

Do you crochet? What's been your favourite project so far?
